Stoneware Bowl by John Bedding
Stoneware Bowl by John Bedding
A stoneware bowl by John Bedding dating from the 1980s.
Bedding started his pottery career in 1964 working for commercial potteries in South London. After moving to St Ives, Cornwall and working at both the Arch and Troika potteries, he joined the Leach pottery as a student in 1969. After a stint working in Japan at the Ichino pottery, Bedding returned to Cornwall in 1982 and started his own pottery making domestic tableware in Cross Street, Penzance (aptly named Cross pottery).
The bowl is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks or loss of glaze and the maker’s backstamp - an impressed cross - indicates it was made at the Cross pottery.
